Ridley Scott’s Alien franchise continues with Alien: Earth, produced by Scott Free Productions. The film has garnered attention for its compelling story and impressive large-scale production. A key part of its making is the choice to shoot in Thailand, showcasing the country’s strong filmmaking resources.
In the creators’ vision, the world of 2120 has changed considerably, with higher temperatures, advanced technology, and urban landscapes of towering skyscrapers surrounded by dense, humid jungles. These specific environmental and architectural requirements made Thailand a leading choice for the production, owing to its modern capital, diverse natural environments, and international-standard studio facilities capable of hosting a mega-project. Ultimately, a key factor in the decision was Thailand’s globally-recognized excellence and robust infrastructure within the film production industry.
Living Films, a prominent Thai production services company with a twenty-eight-year history of supporting Hollywood films in the country, was tasked with leading a crew of over 1,600 professionals to bring the series’ vision of Earth to life.
"The Thai way is my way,"
Shared Noah Hawley during an interview with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff set visit to Bangkok.
Noah commended the Thai crew for their high level of professionalism, efficiency, diligence, and work ethic. These qualities are considered significant assets by international standards and contribute to attracting leading film companies to Thailand. The production was further supported by the Department of Tourism’s Thailand Film Office.
The series, Alien: Earth, will follow the journey of the USCSS Maginot, a Weyland-Yutani vessel, in the year 2120. It will introduce a new hybrid character, “Wendy,” who is described as a fusion of a human consciousness and a synthetic body, representing a complete artificial intelligence. Fans will also see the return of the iconic “Xenomorph,” alongside four new alien species. Hawley indicated that the series will incorporate classic themes from the original Alien, honoring its legacy by exploring concepts such as the erosion of individuality under corporate rule. The narrative aims to explore the fundamental nature of humanity, posing questions about our species’ worthiness to survive.
‘ALIEN: EARTH’ is scheduled for release on Hulu and FX in the US on August 12th 2025, with international release on Disney+ following on August 13th. The project serves as both the beginning of a new chapter for the franchise and a significant testament to Living Films’ capabilities as a leading production company in Southeast Asia, showcasing another of Thailand’s successes on the global stage.
