Champions of Tiger Mountain

Dutch made-for-TV movie shot in the hill tribes of Northern Thailand

Back to Text

"Champions of Tiger Mountain" is a film produced by Musch & Tinbergen of Amsterdam in cooperation with Living Films in Thailand. The film was made in order to give Dutch school children a perspective of what life is like for kids living in a completely different culture, in this case, the Lisu hilltribe people of Northern Thailand.

"Champions" was an original and ambitious project. Working within a limited budget and utilizing 'non-professional actors' the film team was able to use these challenges to their advantage, creating a fresh and dynamic film about the life of these intriguing hill people. Although the film used a traditionally scripted dramatic screenplay written in Dutch and translated into both English and Thai languages, the Lisu people do not have their own written language - which created yet another fascinating challenge to the traditional idea of script and acting.

Living Films and Musch & Tinbergen shot "Champions" between April and June, 2001. The film premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2001 and was distributed within Europe.
