Moment on Earth

One Moment around the World shot in 40 countries (2005)

On August 5th, 2004 at 12:00 noon GMT, and again exactly 12 hours later, 60 filmmakers around the world set out to capture a single Moment on Earth. Together they allow us to see the world from a new perspective. From Antarctica to Iraq; Brazil to Uzbekistan, we are given a unique view into the simultaneity and diversity of life on Earth.

With participants in over 40 countries and on all 7 continents, the events and heroes that they captured span a spectrum of emotions and speak to what it is to be human and alive on Earth today.

The Living Films team shot the first ‘moment' at a cabaret bar in Phuket, capturing the 20 minutes it took for a man to become a woman. As soon as shooting was complete, the team high tailed it across to Krabi Province where we filmed the second ‘moment' of Thai Buddhist monks meditating in the early morning light.

At its heart, the ‘Moment on Earth' series attempts to take an unfathomable concept - the diversity of events taking place all around our planet in a single Moment - and capture them; trapping the moment in such a way as to make it tangible and visual.
