Feature Film Shooting Logistics
Insurance
In terms of production insurance, what is available in Thailand is quite limited. At this point, there is no negative insurance or full entertainment packages available here (and we might not trust it at first if it was available!) Once a production begins prep, we're always happy to work through the details of securing local and overseas insurance (if necessary.)
Normally for feature films the insurance that we secure locally is: 1) Accident insurance for all local cast & crew. This is available for day players (including extras) and stunt men as well (although at a different rate). Note that this is strictly a workplace accident insurance only and does not include traditional workers comp. 2) Auto insurance and third party Automobile liability insurance. 3) certain types of general liability insurance. Meanwhile, most Thai equipment providers will charge a surcharge of 5 to 10% of the rental cost of equipment hire for insurance. If we name them on our overseas policy as additionally insured, they will waive this.
What we usually need to secure overseas: negative film insurance, cast insurance, equipment insurance (also props/sets/wardrobe.) foreign WC/EL, public liability and any film union insurance as required.
