Temples

There are over 31,000 temples across Thailand. In Thailand the temples fall into two categories: modern temple or ancient ruin. The modern temples are ornate, colorful and shiny. The ruins are gray aged and mysterious.

Despite what some people may tell you, one can indeed get permission to shoot in the temples, both modern and ancient. The only temple that we know of that is off limits in the temple of the Emerald Buddha located in the Grand Palace. Despite the fact that one can get permission to shoot in temples, that permission does depend on what one plans to shoot in the temple... and shooting in temples is certainly going to be more sensitive than most other locations. Violent scenes in temples, for example, are relatively frowned upon (depending on the exact nature of the scene.) And one would never get permission to shoot a sexual scene in a temple.

We have shot in temples and ruins throughout the country. For example, for IMAX's "Sacred Planet', we shot spectacular celestial time lapses in the ancient ruins of Sri Satchanalai, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet and Ayutthaya. We've shot in modern temples for documentaries, commercials and feature films in most parts of the country.
