Coastline

There are three main coastal areas for filming in Thailand.

The Eastern Seaboard which runs along the Gulf of Thailand towards the border with Cambodia. Although the beaches closest to Bangkok, near Pattaya for example, can be too crowded for filming, as one moves along East towards Cambodia the beaches become nicer and nicer. The terrain is rather flat with vast expanses of fruit orchards and coconut plantations. The last island group before the Cambodian border, the Koh Chang archipelago, has 50 islands many of which have never been shot on and make amazing filming destinations. Koh Chang now boasts five star accommodation and ferry service to the island (read: generators and equipment access.)

The Andaman Ocean on the Western side of the Southern Isthmus boasts the most spectacular landscapes with its lime stone cliffs rising out of the ocean. We have shot countless times in both Krabi, Phang-Nga and Phuket. Here the infrastructure for filming is solid (although equipment still needs to be brought down from Bangkok) and there is a huge variety of different tropical locations from in-land caves (and lakes in caves) to tiny island outcroppings to sea gypsy villages.

The Gulf of Thailand on the Eastern Side of the Southern Isthmus is home to Koh Samui with its plush resorts and beaches. Koh Samui also has ferry service and a great network of roads around the island. Of significant note, although Koh Samui is only two hours across the Isthmus from Phuket, the rainy season arrives two months later here (not until mid-October.)
